The Alexandria City Council is set to hold its Public Hearing Meeting on Saturday, April 26, with a diverse agenda that includes development projects, zoning amendments, and special recognitions.
The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber at 301 King Street and will also be accessible electronically via Zoom and other platforms.

The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will debut in Old Town on Sunday, April 27. It will feature a half-marathon, a 5K, and a kids’ dash.
This event, produced by Pacers Running and sponsored by PNC Bank, is an evolution of the long-running PNC Parkway Classic. The 13.1-mile course begins at Market Square (301 King St.) and extends through Old Town down the George Washington Parkway. Additional roads surrounding City Hall and Market Square will be closed for race set-up.

The 19-year-old who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died Saturday evening at 22 Canterbury Square has been identified by the Alexandria Police Department (APD).
The victim has been identified as Deaundre Jack, of Alexandria.

For the second time in less than a month, Alexandria Congressman Don Beyer (D-8th) is calling for the resignation or removal of U.S. Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Beyer said that Hegseth “is a threat to American national security.”

More details have been released about the anonymous 911 calls made last month that led to Alexandria City High School being placed on “secure the building” mode.
No suspects have been arrested since the March 20 incident, when police received anonymous phone calls detailing a person with a firearm in the parking lot of the King Street campus (3330 King Street). Police believe that the calls were made through Caller ID Spoofing — concealing an identity by deliberately falsifying data sent to a Caller ID display.

New charges of aggravated manslaughter and driving while intoxicated have been made against the suspect arrested for last week’s fatal crash on King Street.
The Alexandria Police Department announced the additional charges against suspect Jilmar Doria-Medina, the 42-year-old Fairfax man currently being held without bond in the Fairfax County Jail after the April 16 crash that took the life of 19-year-old Abdullahi Mumin.
George Wallace, a local author and former U.S. Navy Commander, is set to release his latest military thriller, “Cold Is the Deep,” on July 1, 2025.
The Alexandria writer’s novel is set in 1983, at the height of Cold War tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It centers on the discovery of a mole in the U.S. Navy, sparking a tense standoff between the two nuclear powers.
