The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is warning residents against an all-too-familiar scam — callers pretending to be law enforcement calling to collect bills.

Late-night travelers should be aware: there may be some delays caused by the opening of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge tonight.
According to an alert system, the bridge will be opening tonight (Monday) at 10 p.m. to allow for the passage of the “Deep Playa Boat”. The opening should not last longer than 15-20 minutes, but there could be other openings due to scheduled maintenance later that night.

A massage therapist at Alexandria Massage Envy (4539 Duke Street) in the Shoppes at Foxchase shopping center has been arrested and charged in relation to sexual assault against two clients.

The Alexandria Police Department says that the shooting death of a 23-year-old resident Saturday night (Oct. 19) is a homicide, and released the identity of the victim.
Carl Harris was found in a parking lot of an apartment building in the 800 block of Manor Road just before 8 p.m. He was put into an SUV and driven to Inova Alexandria Hospital, but was dead on arrival, according to police dispatches.

The opening of the Minnie Howard campus as a second location for Alexandria City High School created a situation where, between classes, students may have to take a bus to get from one campus to the other. After weeks of reporting on transportation frustrations of students struggling to get between the new Alexandria City High School campuses, the Theogony editors wrote a scathing condemnation of the current transportation setup:

City Council member Canek Aguirre, who also attended the meeting, said conversations focused on the diverse businesses throughout Alexandria’s West End. The City of Alexandria is seeking $2.5 million in state funding to help prevent flooding in the North Ridge neighborhood.

With less than three weeks until election day on Nov. 5, more than 15,000 Alexandria residents have cast early and by-mail ballots, according to the city’s Office of Voter Registration and Elections.
On the ballot this year are nominees for president and vice president, U.S. Senate, Congress, Alexandria’s mayor, City Council and School Board.
