A 32-year-old Alexandria man has been found guilty for pimping out his girlfriend from his apartment.

Orayl Ingram was convicted on Feb. 28 for pandering and sex trafficking. He is currently being held without bond in the city jail, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each offense. His sentencing is scheduled for June 5.


More details have been released on the alleged attempted abduction and sexual assault near Holmes Run Dog Park last fall, as well as the arrest of a suspect.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. A suspect, 21-year-old Rohid Hakimi, was arrested on Nov. 14 — two weeks after the incident occurred. He is currently being held without bond in the Alexandria jail.


A fire broke out on the second floor of a home in Alexandria on Thursday morning, but firefighters quickly brought it under control.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to the blaze on Summers Dr. at approximately 11:44 a.m. and managed to rescue a dog on the scene.


More details have been released on Alexandria resident Timothy McGhee, a substitute teacher in Arlington charged in January with stalking and taking indecent liberties with an underage Washington-Liberty High School student.

McGhee, a 47-year-old substitute math teacher at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, unsuccessfully ran for state Senate in Arlington and Alexandria in 2011. He was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with stalking and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a supervisory or custodial relationship.

James Ross, who has led the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra since the 2018-19 season, will step down as music director after the 2025-26 season.

According to the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Ross has informed the Board of Trustees of his intention to step down as Music Director following the soon-to-be-announced season. The orchestra’s Board of Trustees has unanimously named Ross as Music Director Laureate, a role he’ll take on following his departure.


The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will debut in Old Town on Sunday, April 27. It will feature a half marathon, 5K, and kids' dash.

This event is an evolution of the long-running PNC Parkway Classic.


The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for Alexandria and nearby areas and warned of possible severe thunderstorms today (Wednesday, March 5).

The Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. and covers Alexandria and parts of central, northern, and southern Maryland, as well as central and northern Virginia. Expect south winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph.


Two Alexandria City Council members are taking to the airwaves with a new podcast aimed at keeping residents informed about local government activities.

Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and Councilman R. Kirk McPike have launched "Council Connection," a monthly podcast focused on the activities of the Alexandria City Council.
