Alexandria officials are alerting residents to prepare for potential severe weather on Friday, May 30. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of thunderstorms and flash flooding in parts of Northern Virginia.
The forecast predicts widespread showers and thunderstorms that could bring strong winds, large hail, and flash flooding to the area.
As of 2:19 p.m., the National Weather Service has provided the following forecast for Friday for Alexandria.
FridayA slight chance of showers before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 5pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Patchy fog before 9am. High near 80. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.Friday NightShowers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 59. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of
precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
The City has public works teams standing by to clean up flood debris should flooding occur.

In the event of a storm or flooding, residents, business owners, and visitors should seek shelter, tune in to local media for more information, and take appropriate actions to keep their households safe.
Do not drive into flooded roadways.
