The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for Alexandria and nearby areas and warned of possible severe thunderstorms today (Wednesday, March 5).

The Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. and covers Alexandria and parts of central, northern, and southern Maryland, as well as central and northern Virginia. Expect south winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph.


Two Alexandria City Council members are taking to the airwaves with a new podcast aimed at keeping residents informed about local government activities.

Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and Councilman R. Kirk McPike have launched "Council Connection," a monthly podcast focused on the activities of the Alexandria City Council.

Alexandria’s Complete Streets program, which aims to make city streets safer and more accessible for all users, will be the focus of an upcoming public program hosted by Agenda Alexandria on March 24 at the Lyceum.

Since its implementation, Complete Streets has generated both support and opposition. The city touts safety improvements, while some residents express concerns about impacts on traffic flow and automobile use.


Congressman Don Beyer is skipping President Donald Trump’s address to Congress tonight (Tuesday, March 4).

Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th Congressional District (Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and parts of Fairfax County) in the House, first announced his decision during a telephone town hall meeting with constituents on Monday night.


The Alexandria Health Department and the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria have released their Winter 2024-25 Progress Report for the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), highlighting significant advances in addressing the city’s key health priorities.

The report reveals that 74 of the 80 planned tactics are now in progress, managed by a coalition of city agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations. These initiatives target the three priority areas identified in Alexandria’s 2019 Community Health Assessment: mental health, poverty, and housing.

Locals around the region may have received texts recently for “unpaid toll bills” — be aware that this is part of a ‘smishing’ scam making the rounds nationwide.

Smishing is a type of data phishing scam that uses text messages to lure people into giving personal information. The text going around gives a url and tells the receiver to put the address into their Safari browser and open it.


The ye olde Taco Bell Cantina on King Street in the heart of Old Town (417 King Street) is set to get a new upgrade that could be getting a new pickup window for to-go orders.

The new plan proposes to add an aluminum framed “pick-up window” to the front of the store. The proposal is scheduled to head to the Board of Architectural Review on Wednesday, March 5.
