A bicyclist is facing life-threating injuries following a vehicle/bicyclist collision on Friday morning on Eisenhower Avenue.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of Eisenhower Avenue, forcing police to close the road between South Van Dorn Street and Metro Road.


Research colleges and universities in Virginia are at risk of taking significant cuts, state lawmakers in the House of Delegates and education experts revealed Tuesday, as the country’s executive branch continues to trim down operations and funding in the federal government.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced this week the arrest of a 40-year-old Salvadoran woman in Alexandria on Feb. 25.

Silvia Lorana Bonilla-De Jandres was arrested as part of an investigation by the Virginia State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. She was arrested more than a month ago, on the same day that a 41-year-old Salvadoran woman was arrested by ICE in Alexandria.


The Alexandria Police Department is looking for multiple suspects who allegedly stole debit and credit cards from a woman’s wallet in an Old Town coffee shop.

The victim spent about five hours in the coffee shop on the afternoon of Feb. 7 (Friday), located across the street from the Alexandria courthouse in the 500 block of King Street, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit. The victim told police that she was in the shop from noon to 5 p.m. She put her purse on the chair and she had her back toward it while speaking with a friend sitting on the other side of her.


The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for early Wednesday morning (April 9), from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The warning covers areas along and east of I-95 in Maryland and northern Virginia, including Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and parts of Fairfax County.

Amtrak has hit a new high, serving 32.8 million customers in fiscal year 2024 – a record for the rail service.


A little more than 100 days on the job, Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire will appear before City Council on Tuesday (April 8) to present his department’s public safety review and plan.

McGuire started work last November, embarking on a 100-day action plan that involved town hall meetings to solicit feedback from the public on areas needing focus.


Early childhood education and development is taking the spotlight this month in Alexandria.

This morning (April 7), Alexandria City Public Schools and city leaders recognized the first-ever Month of the Young Child at the Early Childhood Center at Minnie Howard. The school system is building on the annual National Association for the Education of Young Childrens (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child (April 5-11) with a month of planned activities.
