Alexandria Celebrates Women is hosting a Denim Day event on April 30 at Del Ray Pizzeria (2218 Mount Vernon Avenue) to raise awareness about sexual assault prevention and support survivors.
The event runs from 5-8 p.m. and features competitions, live music by Hope & Nat, raffles, giveaways, and educational components about sexual assault awareness. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite jeans to show support for survivors and join in the activities. The event also raises funds for the Alexandria Domestic Violence Safehouse.
Alexandria Celebrates Women is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization. They support the safehouse and recognize the accomplishments of Alexandria’s women past, present, and future.

The Alexandria City Council hosted a long legislative meeting last night. Kicking off at 6:15 p.m. and ending at 10:52 p.m., the meeting included a detailed work session on add-ons and deletions for the FY26 budget, as well as discussions on proposed changes to the ordinances for the Independent Policing Auditor and the Independent Community Policing Review Board, and much more. ALXnow’s Ryan Belmore was on hand at City Hall for the entire meeting and will have more reporting from the meeting throughout the day.
City Council is considering increasing stormwater fees. A public hearing was held during the legislative meeting last night.
The City Council is back in session on Saturday, hosting a Public Hearing Meeting that includes development projects, zoning amendments, and special recognitions.
After two weeks of passionate voting to decide who serves up the best pizza in Alexandria, the results are in! More than 2,400 individual votes (2,459 to be exact) were tallied from a competitive field of 30 diverse nominees, highlighting how seriously Alexandrians take their pizza.
The inaugural PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will take place on Sunday. There are several road closures planned throughout the city.
A memorial service will be held today for influential Alexandria architect and planner G. Revell Michael.
A 4-day “Banned Book Speakeasy” opens at The Study at Morrison House today. It runs through Sunday.
The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project invites the public to Roberts Memorial United Methodist Church today at 6 p.m. for an event that will recognize and remember the 1897 lynching of Alexandria native Joseph McCoy.
