One westbound lane has reopened near 5005 Duke Street after Alexandria staff and police responded overnight to a water main break in the area.

Virginia American Water is currently responding to the main break, which the Alexandria Police Department reported on Facebook shortly after 11 p.m. yesterday (Monday). The break prompted APD to close westbound lanes at the scene, and as of 12:45 a.m. today (Tuesday), one lane had been reopened.

Anyone noticing that the water in Holmes Run looks different today: you’re not crazy: it’s because of a nearby water main break.

Alexandria Transportation & Environmental Services said though a water main break this morning (Thursday) at the 1100 block of Anderson Street has been cleared up, water in Holmes Run may “remain cloudy for the remainder of the day.”

A water main break has shut down three Alexandria schools today.

Douglas MacArthur (4633 Taney Avenue), James K. Polk (5000 Polk Avenue) and Patrick Henry Elementary (4643 Taney Avenue) Schools have been closed, according to Alexandria City Public Schools.

Famed Jewish Songstress Dies in Alexandria at 97 — “Singer, songwriter, guitarist and accordionist Flory Jagoda worked hard to preserve the music and language she inherited from her Sephardic Jewish ancestors in her adopted American home. A water main break erupted like a geyser in the West End Wednesday morning , and Virginia American Water says that it will be repaired by 5 p.m.

The water main break was reported just after 4:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Whiting Street, and police advised residents to steer clear of the area.
