JUST IN: Details on Alexandria resident charged taking indecent liberties with Arlington high school student

More details have been released on Alexandria resident Timothy McGhee, a substitute teacher in Arlington charged in January with stalking and taking indecent liberties with an underage Washington-Liberty High School student.

McGhee, a 47-year-old substitute math teacher at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, unsuccessfully ran for state Senate in Arlington and Alexandria in 2011. He was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with stalking and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a supervisory or custodial relationship.

Alexandria Police investigating fatal shooting of man at Southern Towers Apartments

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said it is investigating the fatal shooting of a man inside the Southern Towers apartment complex.

Police said the man was found with an apparent gunshot wound but the cause of death remains under investigation.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) warned drivers to avoid the Duke Street and Quaker Lane intersection after a crash involving anywhere between nine to eleven vehicles.

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire, sworn in last month, is meeting with community members in a series of public meetings to discuss past and current issues facing the city.

In a release, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) said the meetings are part of “fulfilling his promise to gain a deeper understanding of historical challenges and urgent matters that need immediate attention within his first 100 days as Chief of the Alexandria Police Department (APD).”

Alexandria and ‘neigh’boring jurisdictions help rescue escaped horses on Telegraph Road

Alexandria and some neighboring jurisdictions had to hoof it to catch some escaped horses on Telegraph Road yesterday.

Fairfax County Police Department helped the Alexandria Police Department secure the horses.

Alexandria man sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison for executing family dog

A 41-year-old Alexandria man was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for executing the family dog in a fit of rage, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter.

Sean Nikai Callender was sentenced on Jan. 23 after being convicted of felony animal cruelty and reckless handling of a firearm. The incident occurred on Feb. 25, 2024, in an apartment in the 4300 block of Raleigh Avenue, which is near the Shoppes of Foxchase on Duke Street.

Student injured by knife in fight during fire drill at Alexandria City High School

An Alexandria City High School student allegedly brandished a knife and injured a student in a fight on the school football field during a fire drill today (Jan. 29), according to a letter from the school’s principal to parents.

The Alexandria Police Department responded to the ACHS King Street campus at around 11:30 a.m. for report of a 14-year-old male student who was injured with a cut to his finger, according to dispatches.

Mayor says Alexandria law enforcement won’t help ICE conduct immigration raids

Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins says that recent immigration enforcement raids in nearby jurisdictions have resulted in “fear, confusion, and concern,” and that the city won’t assist federal investigators.

In a statement posted on the city website today, the Democrat mayor said that Alexandria will always be a welcoming community where “all residents are supported, respected, and valued.”

Alexandria City Council hits brakes on Police Review Board

The Alexandria City Council disapproved a plan to reconfigure the city’s Independent Community Policing Review Board (ICPRB).

On Saturday, Council unanimously reversed a November 2024 decision that would have dramatically altered the rules and authority of the board and eliminated its subpoena power. The decision was made after considerable pushback during the public hearing, including from the ICPRB chair and vice chair, who are unhappy with the proposal.

Three teenagers have charged in the fatal shooting of Alexandria resident Kwakia Frazier and wounding two others, the Alexandria Police Department announced today.

A 16-year-old and two 17-year-old suspects have each been charged with murder by mob and two counts of malicious wounding by mob.

Alexandria Police arrest man after weapon brandishing incident at King Street Metro station

Earlier this week, the Alexandria Police Department arrested a man on an outstanding warrant from Arlington after he allegedly brandished a weapon at the King Street Metro station.

On Wednesday around 5 p.m., scanner traffic noted reports came in that a man had pulled out a gun at the station, though later review of video footage found that he had pulled out a knife.
