Three teenagers have charged in the fatal shooting of Alexandria resident Kwakia Frazier and wounding two others, the Alexandria Police Department announced today.

A 16-year-old and two 17-year-old suspects have each been charged with murder by mob and two counts of malicious wounding by mob.

Earlier this week, the Alexandria Police Department arrested a man on an outstanding warrant from Arlington after he allegedly brandished a weapon at the King Street Metro station.

On Wednesday around 5 p.m., scanner traffic noted reports came in that a man had pulled out a gun at the station, though later review of video footage found that he had pulled out a knife.

Alexandria’s crime stats for 2024 have been released, and the city’s Part 1 crime rate increased for the third consecutive year.

There was a 7% increase in Part 1 crimes, or crimes against people. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. There were 4,733 Part 1 incidents in 2024, an increase of 7.3% over the 4,410 incidents reported in 2023, according to the city’s crime dashboard.

Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins and the new City Council were sworn into office on Thursday (Jan. 2), ushering in a new era of city governance with the new year.

Gaskins is the first Black woman to be elected mayor of the city. She stood alongside her husband and two children and took the oath of office from Clerk of the Court Greg Parks onstage at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center (4915 E. Campus Drive) at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus.

A man suffered a felonious assault is his apartment on New Year’s Eve in Alexandria’s West End.

The 38-year-old victim reported to police that he was physically assaulted in his apartment in the 300 block of S. Whiting Street by a man he knows. The victim was bleeding profusely from the face when he flagged down a police officer outside the apartment building, according to Alexandria Police Department dispatches.

Alexandria’s new Police Chief Tarrick McGuire will host a town hall meeting in Arlandria on Friday (Dec. 27).

The effort is part of McGuire’s 100-day action plan to get input from the community on “urgent matters that need immediate attention,” which will result in the Alexandria Police Department’s creation of a “change management roadmap to better align the agency and establish key priorities.”

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the shooting of two men near the Winkler Botanical Preserve in the city’s West End on Thursday morning (Dec. 26).

APD was called at around 9 a.m. for a 19-year-old male suffering gunshot wounds to one of his legs and arms in the parking lot in the 5400 block of Roanoke Avenue. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, and shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to radio dispatches.

A man was injured by a gang in a felonious assault early Christmas morning in Alexandria’s Potomac West neighborhood.

A possible home invasion was called in at around 5:45 a.m. from an apartment in the 3800 block of Russell Road. The 30-year-old victim told police that at least six people wearing ski masks and dark clothing were attempting to break into his apartment, and were banging on the front door and breaking windows, according to police dispatch.

An Alexandria man is being held without bond after a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in Old Town on Sunday night.

Davonte Keys, 30, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding shortly after a man was shot multiple times in the lobby area of the Ladrey Senior Hi-Rise apartment building at 300 Wythe Street.

A 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in Old Town Sunday night, and soon afterward the Alexandria Police Department arrested a person of interest and found a handgun hidden in bushes.

APD was called just after 8 p.m. for the report of a man shot multiple times in the area of the Ladrey Senior Hi-Rise at 300 Wythe Street.
