More details have been released on the alleged attempted abduction and sexual assault near Holmes Run Dog Park last fall, as well as the arrest of a suspect.
The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. A suspect, 21-year-old Rohid Hakimi, was arrested on Nov. 14 — two weeks after the incident occurred. He is currently being held without bond in the Alexandria jail.
The victim was near the dog park when she walked past the suspect, who she saw sitting on a bench, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.
According to police:
Within seconds as (the victim) passed the bench with the unknown male sitting there, she simultaneously felt a hand across her face and an arm across the other side of her body, and a jolt backwards, followed by thrusting motions into her buttocks with an erect penis.
(The victim) immediately bit the fatty area of the suspect’s fingers, which caused the suspect to move his fingers, allowing (the victim to scream). The suspect then cupped his hand and reformed it around her mouth. As this is occurring, (the victim) began thrusting her arms backwards, causing the suspect to release her.
The victim escaped without injury.
The victim told police that the suspect then ran away and that she followed him and watched as he ran into an embankment in the area of 4400 Wheeler Avenue, according to the search warrant affidavit.
Police later talked to a female witness who reported that at around 3:30 p.m. she observed a male talking to himself in the area of the park. The woman was walking in the park and told police that the suspect wore a blue-and-white hoodie and hid behind a tree as she approached. She also said that the suspect then surprised her by jogging up behind and then past her, according to the search warrant affidavit.
The Alexandria Police Department later found surveillance video of a man fitting the suspect’s description running from the scene, removing clothing, and getting on a Metro Transit bus. According to the search warrant affidavit, the suspect had dark-colored hair wrapped in a bun, a blue and white sweatshirt, camouflage pants, and gray and white sneakers.
On Nov. 4, a Metro analyst saw a man fitting the suspect’s description get on another bus, providing investigators with a sharper look. After identifying the suspect, an APD detective contacted his former employer, a food service company located just blocks from Alexandria Police Headquarters on Wheeler Avenue.
The company’s human resources manager told police that Hakimi was fired the week of Oct. 18 for being “intoxicated at work,” according to the search warrant affidavit. The HR manager said he’d worked for the company for three months and told police, “That’s Rohid, 100%,” when shown photos of the suspect.
Hakimi goes to court in a jury trial on July 21.
