Update at 5:15 p.m. — All lanes have now been reopened
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) warned drivers to avoid the Duke Street and Quaker Lane intersection after a crash involving anywhere between nine to eleven vehicles.
APD Communications Manager Tracy Walker said traffic on Duke Street is being rerouted to Fort Williams Parkway after the multi-vehicle crash. Walker said the incident started when a tow truck apparently lost its brakes.
According to scanner traffic the crash occurred around 4 p.m.
“Four individuals were transported to a hospital with non-serious injuries,” Walker said.
Earlier today all eastbound traffic on Duke Street was shut down near the intersection, as was southbound traffic on Quaker Lane up to Janney’s Lane.
