A 34-year-old Fairfax County man has been arrested and charged with statutory burglary after an April crime spree in Alexandria.
Alton Thodos, 34, who lives in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County, was arrested on April 27, for committing four burglaries from gas stations in Del Ray and Old Town at night. He is accused of stealing more than $45,000 worth of items.
Alexandria Police are investigating an assault that occurred at the 24 Hour Express Food Store in Arlandria on Wednesday night.
Police received the call at around 9:15 p.m. and found a man with non-life threatening injuries. The victim was transported to The George Washington University Hospital and was conscious when he spoke to police, according to scene commander Sergeant Mark Blackwell.
A pedestrian was killed this evening by a Virginia Railway Express train behind the Regal Cinemas at Potomac Yard, according to Alexandria Police.
The person died at the scene, and the incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m., according to Alexandria Police spokesman Lieutenant Courtney Ballantine.
Alexandria Police are considering the March 31 shooting of a 17-year-old to be a targeted attack.
On Tuesday, March 31, the victim was playing basketball with a number of other minors when he was shot in the back by an unknown suspect in the 300 block of Tancil Court in Old Town, according to a police search warrant affidavit.
Alexandria Police are adjusting patrol operations after more than a month of modified services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That means that residents will see more officers on the street, including officers on motorcycles — in addition to an already established police presence at food distribution points, potential gathering points and at COVID-19 testing sites throughout the city, according to police spokesman Lieutenant Courtney Ballantine.

More than 100 law enforcement officials and first responders showed their appreciation Inova Alexandria Hospital staff on Tuesday. Alexandria Police are investigating a scam against a city resident, in which she reported losing $11,800 to someone claiming to be a representative of the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes.
The victim reported to police on April 9 that she received a call telling her that she was the winner of Publisher’s Clearing House’s grand prize, but that in order to get the funds she would have to pay taxes beforehand, according to the police search warrant affidavit.
The Del Ray Business Association is warning the community against a phishing scam that has potential victims receiving emails from DRCA President Sue Kovalsky.
“Some of our members received targeted emails posing as Del Ray Business Association President Sue Kovalsky, requesting eBay, Target, or Macy’s gift cards to donate to veterans affected by COVID-19,” according to DRCA. “While the email appears to be from Sue, the email address was not hers.”
