After a month-long renovation, The Westin Alexandria Old Town has reopened its Trademark Restaurant.

The renovations at 2080 Jamieson Avenue include a standout central bar, a new café space, a semi-private dining room and a dog-friendly street-side patio. There’s also a new menu featuring American and French fare.

D.C. bar Death & Co. near Mount Vernon Square closed earlier this summer for repairs, but will make a surprise return as a pop-up inside Hotel Heron (699 Prince Street) in Old Town.

The bar is reopening today for a limited run inside what will eventually be Hotel Heron’s own bar, Francis Hall.

After years of food trucks, Port City Brewing Company is getting its first fully-fledged restaurant: La Tingeria.

The Alexandria location at 3950 Wheeler Avenue will be the third for La Tingeria, which also has spots in Falls Church and Spotsylvania. The taqueria is expected to open at Port City in October.


Around Town

Renovations are progressing at an upcoming takeout spot for Middle Eastern food in Potomac Yard.

Interior work is underway at Omar’s Pitas and Platters (3100 Richmond Hwy). The restaurant is is expected to open later this year.

Regional gelato chain Pitango Gelato opened earlier this week at 115 S. Union Street in Old Town, a block away from the waterfront.

The location held a grand opening on Tuesday, June 25. The new location is next to Union Street Public House and less than a block away from Ben & Jerry’s.

A new rooftop bar called Good Fortune opened last week at Old Town’s brand new Hotel Heron (699 Prince Street) and it’s planning to capitalize on its scenic view with a 4th of July event.

The bar is hosting a party called “Red, White and Views” celebrating the new scenic view of the Potomac River and D.C.

It was a hit, one of the highest grossing arcade games of the year, but only around 500 of them were made and it’s been largely inaccessible on modern technology, leaving modern game fans with no way to play it — until now.

The owners of Del Ray’s District Biscuit have figured out another way to make some dough.

Last week, Alex Rosenberg and Michael Vidal opened their popup “Low-Key Gnocchi” at the restaurant (3401 Mount Vernon Avenue). They’re offering customers $10 servings of the Italian dumplings with a choice of three sauces — marinara, pesto and Alfredo.

There’s a new Honduran restaurant in town.

Como En Casa (Just Like Home) opened last month at 4112 Mount Vernon Avenue in the former home of Ferman’s Bar & Grill. It’s the first restaurant for owner Jury Vaquedano, who brightened the interior by painting the walls, and adding large televisions, as well as a fresh menu and staff.
