It’s been 16 years since Generous George’s Positive Pizza & Pasta Place closed, and only a few months before it reopens as a Japanese sushi restaurant.
After an extensive interior renovation, Umiya Alexandria is expected to open by August, a contractor working on the project told ALXnow.
“We are doing a lot of interior cosmetic stuff,” said contractor Kevin Huong. “We hope to have it open before August in the summer.”
The new owners are installing sushi bars and new countertops. They have also scheduled a pickup to throw away the large and aged Generous George’s window signs, Huong said.
As previously reported, the new restaurant will have 338 seats with 17 ADA seats, as well as 36 valet parking spaces.
ALXnow has reached out to the restaurant owner for more information.
Generous George’s closed in 2009 after 33 years in business. The spot was more recently known as the “opening soon” home of Yates Pizza Palace, a restaurant that never got off the ground. It was also briefly a food kitchen that closed in 2023.
