The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said 25-year-old Alexandria resident Kwakia Frazier, one of the victims in a Braddock neighborhood shooting last night, has died.

The shooting occurred around 8:14 p.m. at 1221 Wythe Street on Thursday night. Police said Frazier and another adult victim, a 46-year-old city resident, were transported to a hospital. A third person, a 15-year-old boy, was grazed by a bullet and received medical treatment on the scene.

Alexandria experienced a nearly 13% rise in Part 1 crime so far this year, with larcenies jumping 23%.

Part 1 crimes, or crimes against people, include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. There have been 2,692 total Part I incidents so far this year, a 13.5% increase over the 2,371 total incidents reported until this point last year, according to the Alexandria Police Department Crime Dashboard.

The Alexandria Police Department released the identities of the dead victim and suspect in Saturday’s shooting at the Onelife Fitness (305 Hooffs Run Drive) in Carlyle. APD said that the suspect and the victim were “known to each other.”

According to dispatch, the shooting occurred inside the Onelife Fitness at around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Alexandria Police Department says that the at-large suspect in last month’s shooting homicide in a parking garage at the MGM National Harbor has ties across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Alexandria.

Neal is accused of shooting and killing 37-year-old Daniel Antonio Thomas, of D.C., in a parking garage in the 100 block of MGM National Avenue on May 11. PGPD said in a release that Thomas died of several gunshot wounds.

A 29-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his roommate by shooting him in the head as he left for work in the West End.

Dontae Lashaun Drumgold was convicted of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a murder in the 2022 death of 25-year-old Elijah Williams.

Francis Deonte Rose was found guilty today of two counts of aggravated murder in the 2022 shooting deaths of two construction workers in the West End. The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office is now seeking a life sentence.

After a four-day-long trial, the jury found Rose guilty of two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and unlawful entry. He was found not guilty of burglary.

The suspect in a 2022 West End double homicide pleaded not guilty in court Monday morning, and claims that he killed two construction workers in self-defense.

Francis Deonte Rose admits to shooting and killing construction workers Adrian Dejesus Rivera Guzman, 48, and his stepson, 24-year-old Juan Carlos Anaya Hernandez, on the morning of July 16, 2022 in the northern section of the former Assembly Alexandria apartment complex in the 200 block of Century Place.

A 35-year-old D.C. man was found guilty yesterday for a 2015 drive-by shooting that killed an Alexandria man and wounded another, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Oscar Ramos was found guilty yesterday in federal court of first degree murder while armed for the May 28, 2015 shooting death of 50-year old Pedro Melendez Alvarado. He was also found guilty of assault with intent to kill by wounding 56-year old Miguel A. Rodriguez Carabantes.

A 15-year-old Northeast D.C. boy was arrested Friday and charged with felony murder while armed in last year’s shooting death of Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a former interpreter with U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan, who fled the Taliban in 2021 with his wife and four children and moved to Alexandria.

Yar was working as a Lyft Driver in D.C. on July 3, 2023, when he was shot and killed just at around midnight in the 400 block of 11th Street NE. Video footage near the scene showed four young people running through an alley after the shooting. One of them said, “You killed him,” and another responded, “He was reaching bro.”

Alexandria experienced a nearly 30% increase in Part 1 crime in 2023, and Mayor Justin Wilson says new initiatives will help stem the flow.

Part 1 crimes, or crimes against people, include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. There were 4,410 total Part I incidents in 2023, an increase of 31% over the 3,361 incidents reported in 2022, according to the Alexandria Police Department Crime Dashboard.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) has charged Alexandria resident Bisrat Shaga, 35, with first-degree murder after stabbing a man in a fatal Del Ray church stabbing last month.

Shaga reportedly killed Centreville resident Emmanuel Negatu, 38, in the One God In Christ Apostolic Church (2707 Dewitt Avenue) on Nov. 12
