Larcenies jump 23% in Alexandria so far this year

Alexandria experienced a nearly 13% rise in Part 1 crime so far this year, with larcenies jumping 23%.

Part 1 crimes, or crimes against people, include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. There have been 2,692 total Part I incidents so far this year, a 13.5% increase over the 2,371 total incidents reported until this point last year, according to the Alexandria Police Department Crime Dashboard.

Larcenies are the only Part 1 statistics that increased so far this year.There have been 2,129 larcenies to-date this year, against 1,733 larcenies reported in 2023.

Alexandria has been experiencing a crime surge for several years, with dramatic increases in gun-related incidents, as well as a department that suffered diversity and morale issues.

A city crime map (in the gallery above) reveals the highest concentration of crime to have occurred in Alexandria’s West End, Arlandria and in the Braddock neighborhood.

A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that there were five homicides up to this point in 2024. There have been a number of suspicious deaths, but no confirmed homicides this year, according to the Alexandria Police Department. The article has been updated without homicides.
