A 48-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle while she walked in a travel lane on Interstate 495 on the early morning of Sunday, July 25.
Virginia State Police reported that Ebony N. Madison, of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, died after being struck by a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT at the 177 mile marker.
A 29-year-old man was sent to the hospital in serious condition after being shot multiple times in the West End on Saturday night, Alexandria Police reported.
The incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of N. Beauregard Street and Sanger Avenue, which is near Holmes Run, apartment buildings and the William Ramsay Recreation Center.

History was made, as the new marquees at Alexandria City High School and Naomi L. Brooks Elementary Schools were unveiled this week, and the name changes to T.C. Williams High School and Matthew Maury Elementary School will go into effect July 1. It’s a victory for civil rights, as the namesakes of both old schools had backgrounds steeped in racism. Maury was a Confederate leader and Williams was an ACPS superintendent who worked intently against racial integration.
A 54-year-old Alexandria woman died at the scene of a crash Friday, after veering her Dodge Ram off Interstate 95 in Hanover County and into a Volvo being repaired by its owner on the shoulder of the road. (Courtesy VSP)
“Candace S. Fields-Rogers, 54, of Alexandria, Va., was driving the Ram,” Virginia State Police reported. “She was wearing a seatbelt. She succumbed to her injuries onscene.”
Alexandria Police are investigating a hit and run involving an AVIS rental car at the intersection of S. Henry and Franklin Streets in Old Town.
The May 4 incident occurred at around 6:20 a.m., and left two motorists injured. The rental car, a Toyota Camry, was recorded running through a red, and then hit a 1999 Honda Civic traveling east on Franklin. The Civic was consequently then pushed into the path of another car.
(Updated at 2:50 p.m.) Traffic is reopening as Alexandria Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of S. Patrick (Route 1) and Franklin Streets in Old Town on Tuesday morning (May 4).
Two of the drivers were injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the third driver left his car at the scene and ran away on foot, according to police.

No charges have been made against a driver who smashed a window at a CVS in De Ray late Thursday afternoon.
Police said the driver had wooden boards in the back of his truck, which struck the window of the store at 415 E. Monroe Avenue as he backed up from his parking space. No one was injured and the driver stayed at the scene.
