Man faces 10 years for DWI in horrific West End crash in Safeway parking lot

A 52-year-old Alexandria man faces up to 10 years in prison after allegedly driving while intoxicated and pinning a man who was packing his car with groceries in a West End parking lot.

On April 12, Catalin Filipeanu was indicted by the Grand Jury for the City of Alexandria for maiming a person by driving while intoxicated and possession of Xanax.

No charges after driver smashes window of CVS on E. Monroe Avenue

No charges or injuries after a driver backed into the CVS at 415 E. Monroe Avenue in Del Ray. (Staff photo by James Cullum)

No charges have been made against a driver who smashed a window at a CVS in De Ray late Thursday afternoon.

Police said the driver had wooden boards in the back of his truck, which struck the window of the store at 415 E. Monroe Avenue as he backed up from his parking space. No one was injured and the driver stayed at the scene.

Verizon store crash suspect also suspected of crashing into D.C. apartment complex — “Following receipt of his emails, we immediately worked to increase security at the property. Unfortunately, he visited the office twice last Monday and the second visit is when he crashed his car into our lobby. After leaving The Drake, he visited a Verizon store in Virginia and crashed his car through their storefront as well.” [PoPville]

The Art League bringing back in-person classes this month — “In-person classes will start on Monday, April 5 with adherence to CDC, Alexandria Health Department and Virginia Department of Health guidelines. Over 40 classes will be offered, covering a range of art forms, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, metal jewelry design, stained glass, and steel furniture design and construction.” [Patch]

No injuries in two-car crash in Old Town — “APD is investigating a two-vehicle crash at North Henry and Cameron Streets that happened around 3:40 pm. One vehicle struck a building at the intersection, causing damage. No injuries reported. That intersection is CLOSED, traffic is being re-routed.” [Twitter]

Suspect arrested after allegedly crashing car into Verizon store near Potomac Yard

A suspect has been arrested after allegedly crashing his car headfirst into the Verizon store near Potomac Yard on March 22.

Police did not identify the suspect, but said in a tweet that he was arrested in North Carolina. Police also did not say what he was charged with or when he was arrested.

BREAKING: Man rams car into Verizon Store near Potomac Yard

(Updated 3:15 p.m.) Police and fire department are at 2920 Richmond Highway after a driver apparently crashed his vehicle into the building then left the scene.

There are no injuries reported yet, according to Alexandria Fire Department spokeswoman Raytevia Evans.

Just In: Two-Car Collision Shuts Down Route 1 South in Old Town

No injuries are reported after a two-car collision in Old Town, as southbound Route 1 (N. Henry Street) is shut down at the intersection of Wythe Street.

Alexandria Police told ALXnow that the incident occurred at around 3:25 p.m. and the roadway has been closed temporarily for tow trucks to clear the scene.
