These lovely bunnies are almost 2 years old and are in need of a home together. Rex bunnies — known for being calm, affectionate and playful, Faye and Harmony are exactly that, according to AWLA spokesperson Erin Shackelford.

The owners of Del Ray’s District Biscuit have figured out another way to make some dough.

Last week, Alex Rosenberg and Michael Vidal opened their popup “Low-Key Gnocchi” at the restaurant (3401 Mount Vernon Avenue). They’re offering customers $10 servings of the Italian dumplings with a choice of three sauces — marinara, pesto and Alfredo.

Zeina Azzam, the Poet Laureate of the City of Alexandria, is scheduled to speak at United Nations this Friday, May 17.

Azzam will be there as part of a commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

Come celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s War for Independence with renowned music historians David & Ginger Hildebrand for performances of special period music. The Hildebrands will don period attire to discuss and perform music associated with Alexandria’s sister cities: Caen, France; Dundee, Scotland; Helsingborg, Sweden; and Gyumri, Armenia. Scottish music was especially influential in the American colonies, and once the French joined the Revolutionary cause there were musical celebrations for Generals LaFayette, Rochambeau and other French leaders. This concert event is part of the “Alexandria commemorates America’s 250” campaign. David & Ginger specialize in researching, recording, and performing early American music. Since 1980 they have presented concerts and educational programs throughout the country and abroad at museums, historic sites, schools and universities. A 22-year-old Alexandria man suffered an “accidental” gunshot wound to the chest in his apartment on Sunday, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The victim was with friends in his apartment in the 4800 block of Kenmore Avenue in the West End. He was shot at around 10:40 p.m., and the shooting was not self-inflicted, police said.

Six-time Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist David Sanborn died on Sunday, just days before his scheduled appearance at The Birchmere in Alexandria.

Sanborn, who was 78, died after an extended battle with prostate cancer “with complications,” according to an announcement on his Facebook page. The announcement said the artist had maintained a regular touring schedule despite battling the cancer since 2018, and that he had dates schedules into next year.

After months of contention between Alexandria leaders and a group of pro-Palestinian activists, a group of demonstrators temporarily shut down a City Council meeting last night (Tuesday) to demand leaders pass a ceasefire resolution.

The City Council chambers had been filled up with demonstrators holding signs calling for a ceasefire resolution and, around 7:50 p.m., protestors went to the front of the room and hung a Pro-Palestine banner in front of the dais.

Reports of a man with a gun chasing someone else at a shopping center along Duke Street led to two nearby schools being put into “secure the building” status, though it later turned out to be a false alarm.

According to the scanner, around 8 a.m. a man rushed into a store at 4349 Duke Street and said he was being chased by someone with a gun.
