Road closures announced for parades this weekend in Old Town

This weekend is the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade and Holiday Boat Parade of Lights in Alexandria. The two events are always a hoot, but it comes with a series of road closures to be mindful of.

The City of Alexandria said the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade will kick off at S. St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets at 11 a.m. and will conclude at Market Square around 1 p.m.

The boat parade will start with dockside festivities in Waterfront Park from 2-8 p.m. and a family friendly event at Canal Center at the same time.

The parade will cruise along the waterfront from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The release noted that traffic on Union Street will be one-way heading north in an effort to mitigate increased traffic.

According to the release, the road closures are as follows:

The release noted that the times may vary based on when the Alexandria Police Department deems them safe to reopen.
