A shooting in Alexandria’s Arlandria neighborhood has left three men injured. The incident occurred on Sunday (April 27) just after 9 p.m. in the area of the 3800 block of Old Dominion Boulevard and the 600 block of Notabene Drive.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) had initially been dispatched to West Glebe Road for reports of gunfire and a report of a victim shot in the back.

The Linder Academy is growing.

The private school, which now teaches kids from kindergarten through 8th grade, is adding a new upper school for grades 7-12. It’s set to open in fall 2025 in downtown Alexandria.

A fire erupted in a top-floor apartment in Alexandria on Friday night (April 25), triggering a two-alarm response from emergency services.

Alexandria Fire Department’s Engine and Truck 208 were first on the scene at the 5400 block of Sheffield Court. Firefighters encountered flames coming from a top-floor apartment and quickly worked to put out the fire, which had spread to the attic.

Around Town

Alexandria is preparing to celebrate the annual Independent Bookstore Day, with local literary havens, Old Town Books (130 South Royal Street) and Friends to Lovers Bookstore (301 Cameron Street), planning a range of engaging activities and special offerings as participating stores.

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. This year, the event is scheduled for Saturday (April 26). This day aims to celebrate the unique and independent nature of each bookstore.

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire sent a note to Cameron Station Civic Association residents after gunfire was reported Thursday morning (April 24) at Ben Brenman Park.

McGuire detailed the incident, and confirmed that multiple gunshots were reported in the 4800 block of Brenman Park Drive. No one was injured and no arrests have been made yet, and APD is asking the public for help in the investigation.
