ALIVE! seeks volunteers for free food distributions across Alexandria

ALIVE! is giving away free food to needy residents at multiple locations this month, and volunteers are needed to help.

The nonprofit issued a call for volunteers this week on social media, and the free food distributions are specifically for city residents. Attendees are asked to bring reusable grocery bags and proof of city residency. The locations and hours of the distributions are below.

  • Saturday, August 16 — 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with UNCUT Youth at Jefferson-Houston School (1501 Cameron Street)
  • Wednesday, August 20 — 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Fairlington United Methodist Church (3900 King Street)
  • Thursday, August 21 — 4 – 6 p.m. at Francis C. Hammond Middle School (4646 Seminary Road)

ALIVE! will also distribute free groceries from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, at these locations:

  • Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 West Reed Avenue)
  • William Ramsay Recreation Center (5650 Sanger Avenue)
