Wind gusts up to 60 mph could reach Alexandria this weekend as the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning in the region.

This weekend in the D.C. area is expected to be very windy and cold, with wind chills between 0 and 10 degrees below zero, according to NWS. The advisory warns of potential tree and power line damage as well as travel difficulties and hypothermia with exposure.


The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in Alexandria and the D.C. region this morning, advising of potential power outages and tree damage due to forecasted ice.

The warning, in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday, advises of heavy precipitation and as much as 14 inches in total sleet and snow accumulations across D.C., Northern Virginia and central, northeast and northern Maryland. It’s an elevation from NWS’ previous Winter Storm Watch in the area.


The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Flood Watch for Alexandria and surrounding communities.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 7 p.m., and the Flood Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. on Wednesday (June 18).


A flood watch will be in effect for Alexandria and nearby areas from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m. on Tuesday (June 17). The National Weather Service warns that heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, including Northern Virginia.

Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with some storms bringing intense downpours. Alexandria could see 1 to 2 inches of rain in just an hour or two, and some areas might get up to 5 inches if storms linger.


A Flood Watch is in effect for Alexandria and surrounding communities from Friday evening through late tonight (June 13).

The National Weather Service is warning of heavy rain and possible flash flooding across parts of Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through late tonight, covering Washington, D.C., and parts of Maryland and Virginia, including Alexandria.


Alexandria officials are alerting residents to prepare for potential severe weather on Friday, May 30. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of thunderstorms and flash flooding in parts of Northern Virginia.

The forecast predicts widespread showers and thunderstorms that could bring strong winds, large hail, and flash flooding to the area.


A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Alexandria from 2 p.m. Wednesday (May 21) to 6 a.m. Thursday (May 22). Tides are expected to rise up to two and a half feet above normal levels.

The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued the advisory, warning that low-lying areas could see water up to one foot above ground level.


As of 11 p.m. on Friday (May 16), more than 14,250 Dominion Energy customers in Alexandria are experiencing a power outage following severe thunderstorms that passed through the area earlier this evening.

Dominion Energy’s outage map does not have an estimated time of restoration for most of the outages with many stating that the outages are pending investigation and awaiting assignment. Dominion Energy serves more than 70,000 customers in Alexandria.


Alexandria and Arlington County are under a Coastal Flood Advisory until 2 p.m. on Friday (May 16). Low-lying areas along the shoreline are at risk of tidal flooding.

The National Weather Service in Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC warns that water levels could rise up to half a foot above ground. Tides are expected to be two to two and a half feet higher than usual.
