In a roundtable near Alexandria today, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said there is a small chance that the Senate will coalesce around a deal to prevent premium health care hikes for millions of Americans before next month.

Kaine made the statement surrounded by health care professionals at a Neighborhood Health clinic just south of Alexandria, in the wake of Thursday’s rejection of health care bills in the U.S. Senate to extend Affordable Care Act subsidy extensions passed in 2021 that will expire at the end of this year.

Several community members braved the cold yesterday evening (Thursday) to voice their support for a petition to rename The Fields at Alexandria City High School after former Mayor Kerry Donley.

Eight out of thirteen speakers yesterday spoke in support of the measure during a public hearing on Alexandria City Public Schools’ considerations to rename four facilities across the district. Among them were Gayle Reuter, former U.S. Rep. Jim Moran and Kaitlin Donley, one of Donley’s daughters.

The food delivery robots have come to Alexandria, and they’ve got your order.

California-based Serve Robotics Inc., in partnership with Uber Eats, recently launched its autonomous sidewalk delivery company across the city. That means that folks ordering food in Old Town, Del Ray, Potomac West and nearby neighborhoods now have the option to get their orders delivered by a driverless robot.

The Alexandria Police Department has recovered the remains of an Alexandria man who went missing earlier this month.

Hieu Ngo, 29, was found dead yesterday (Thursday) in a wooded area of Joseph Hensley Park at 4200 Eisenhower Avenue near the Capital Beltway, according to an announcement from APD this morning (Friday). An initial investigation “does not indicate that the death is suspicious,” and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the official cause of death, according to the announcement.

The Alexandria Fire Department extinguished a residential building fire in North Ridge last night (Thursday).

On This Day in Alexandria History — “On Dec. 12, 1971, Gerry Bertier, a captain on the undefeated T.C. Williams High School state championship football team, was critically injured in an early morning car crash on North Beauregard Street. The All-American linebacker suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed below the waist. He later became an effective advocate for people with disabilities and was competitive in sports for people in wheelchairs.” [Historic Alexandria]

Beyer Condemns Trump’s AI Order — “President Trump’s AI order is an attempt to kill responsible safety reforms passed by states, which would create a lawless Wild West environment for AI companies that puts Americans at risk. This is a terrible idea. Congress has been slow to respond to the AI revolution and in the absence of a strong federal response, states are wisely taking the lead to create guardrails and protect the public.” [Rep. Don Beyer]
