Carpenter’s Shelter, a local nonprofit supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, is hosting a ribbon-cutting next month for a newly renovated shelter in the Carlyle neighborhood.

Carpenter’s Shelter assumed operations at building at 2355-B Mill Road back in December, 2023 and converted the former Department of Community and Human Services building into a 64-bed shelter. According to the release:


Susanna Sullivan, named “America’s fastest teacher” by Runner’s World, is the grand marshal of the 49th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot.

Sullivan is a sixth grade math teacher in Falls Church and five-time Turkey Trot winner (setting a course record three times). She’s also a world-class runner, finishing seventh in the Chicago Marathon this year (she was also the fastest American runner) and 10th in the London Marathon in 2023.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) announced that two Fairfax County residents have been arrested for a non-fatal double shooting in the Braddock neighborhood earlier this year.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of N. Fayette and Wythe Streets on Sept. 28. Two juveniles were shot while they sat in a parked car on Wythe Street.
