Alexandria residents looking for a healthier meal on the go can find a new health food cafe and juice bar opening this week in the Carlyle neighborhood.
Currently in soft opening, Fresh Healthy Cafe will be hosting a ribbon cutting at 9:55 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 23). Customers can buy one 12-ounce smoothie and get another for free, and get 25% off paninis or protein snack bowls.
Offering smoothies, juices, protein bowls and grilled sandwiches, the cafe and juice bar is at 2040 Jamieson Avenue near the Westin Hotel and the U.S. District Courthouse. The space once housed a Starbucks.
Fresh Healthy Cafe has more than a dozen locations across Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio and Canada. Another nearby location is opening soon in D.C.’s Mount Vernon Triangle area.
Husband-wife team Rick Hetzel and Cheryl Mothes started the company in Missouri in 2019. Mothes is a former nurse with a doctorate in holistic nutrition, according to the company’s website.
“We’ve teamed up to give our community the resources they need to live healthier lives and make a difference for many customers,” Hetzel told Franchise Dictionary Magazine earlier this month.
The current menu includes seasonal options such as a Cranberry Brie Harvest Toastie, a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie, and a wide variety of smoothies. The cafe also offers fresh-squeezed juices, protein bowls, paninis and cold drinks.
The Alexandria menu also notes that Refresh Juice Cleanses are coming soon, including one-, two- or three-day cleanses and resets.
The cafe is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Alexandria location is closed on Sundays.
There is seating for about 20 people inside and two small tables with chairs outside the new cafe.
