Alexandria crews were quick to finish clearing Sunday’s snowfall, aided in part by some warmer temperatures and a lack of “snowcrete.”
As of last night (Monday), all primary, secondary and residential streets have been cleared, as well as Alexandria City Public Schools buildings, bus stops, city facilities and adjacent sidewalks, according to a city announcement. Roads are clear as ACPS students and staff make a return to classrooms today on normal schedules, following yesterday’s synchronous learning plans.
Still, the city says to use caution, as below-freezing temperatures from overnight may lead to some icy patches this morning.
“Residents should use caution on exposed roadways, bridges, waterfront areas, and sidewalks later today and tonight,” the city said. “Make sure to watch for lingering wet spots and treat sidewalks and driveways as needed.”
The city activated snow response crews as early as 4 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a video update posted by Mayor Alyia Gaskins.
“As the snow began to fall and as it continued overnight, we were able to get crews out right away,” she said.
Today, crews are expected to shift the focus to Alexandria’s trails and remaining sidewalk segments, with completion expected sometime this afternoon.
