Alexandria is hosting a virtual community meeting on May 22 at 7 p.m. to discuss recommendations from the South of Airport Noise Mitigation Project. This project aims to reduce aircraft noise impacts south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

The meeting will present findings from a two-year airport noise study conducted by Vianair Consulting in partnership with Alexandria, Fairfax County, and Prince George’s County. Vianair Consulting staff will provide an overview of the study, project recommendations, and next steps. City staff will also be on hand to answer questions from community members.

Starting in May 2023, the study focused on developing recommendations to modify flight procedures to reduce noise in communities south of DCA. The project involved working with residents, staff from the three jurisdictions, and members of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA)-sponsored DCA Community Working Group.

Next steps for the project include working with MWAA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Interested residents can find more information about the study on the Vianair website. The City’s Noise website has additional details and a Zoom link for the virtual meeting.
