Governor Glenn Youngkin announced Friday (July 18) that three more Alexandria residents have been selected for state board positions, continuing a notable trend of Northern Virginia appointments that has seen at least 14 Alexandria locals named to state roles in recent weeks.
The latest appointees include Scott Kopple, Senior Director of Government Relations at BWX Technologies, Inc., who will serve on the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority. BWX Technologies is a major supplier of nuclear components and fuel to U.S. Navy and commercial nuclear power programs.
Harry M. Falconer, Jr., FAIA, NCARB, a retired Senior Architect and former Vice President of Policy and International Relations at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, was appointed to the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects.
Perhaps most notably, retired Air Force General C. Robert Kehler has been named to the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority, where his military background and strategic experience could prove valuable as Virginia seeks to expand its role in the growing commercial space industry.
These appointments add to a growing list of Alexandria residents who have been recently tapped for state service. Just last week, Joseph M. Van Name, President of Advisors Financial, Inc., was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Family and Children’s Trust Fund. The prior Friday saw four more Alexandria appointments, including Douglas W. Domenech to the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin and Dr. Edwin J. Feulner to the Board of Visitors of Mount Vernon.
Earlier appointments included Daniel Gade to Christopher Newport University’s board, Hillary Waldron to William & Mary, Preston Cooper to George Mason University, and cybersecurity executive Micah Edmonds to the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board.
All appointments are subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly, where required.
