Governor Youngkin taps another Alexandria resident for a state board position

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced another round of new board appointments today, including an Alexandria resident who will serve on a state advisory board, continuing a recent trend of Northern Virginia appointments to state positions.

Joseph M. Van Name of Alexandria was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Family and Children’s Trust Fund. Van Name serves as President of Advisors Financial, Inc.

The appointment was part of a broader slate of administration and board appointments announced by Youngkin’s office on Friday, covering positions across agriculture, education, health, transportation, and other state agencies.

Van Name’s appointment to the Family and Children’s Trust Fund board will involve overseeing the state’s efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect through funding prevention programs. The trust fund awards grants to community-based organizations working on child welfare initiatives.

The latest appointment brings to at least eleven the number of Alexandria residents named to state positions in recent weeks. Last Friday, Governor Youngkin appointed four Alexandria residents to state boards, including Douglas W. Domenech to the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin and Dr. Edwin J. Feulner to the Board of Visitors of Mount Vernon.

The week before, Governor Youngkin appointed five other locals to various university boards, including Daniel Gade (Christopher Newport University), Hillary Waldron (William & Mary), and Preston Cooper (George Mason University). Alexandria cybersecurity executive Micah Edmonds was also recently appointed to the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly, where required.
