Governor Glenn Youngkin announced Thursday (July 3) a new round of administration and board appointments that includes four Alexandria residents, continuing a recent trend of Northern Virginia appointments to state positions.
The latest Alexandria appointments include Douglas W. Domenech to the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin, Dr. Edwin J. Feulner to the Board of Visitors of Mount Vernon, S. Lawrence Kocot to the Board of Pharmacy, and W. Patrick Wilson to the Alexandria Historical Restoration and Preservation Commission.
Domenech, a former Secretary of Natural Resources in Virginia who now works as a consultant, will help coordinate water resource management and environmental protection efforts across the Potomac River watershed. Dr. Feulner, founder and former president of The Heritage Foundation, will oversee operations at George Washington’s historic estate. Kocot, principal of Kocot & Associates, LLC, will help regulate pharmacy practice throughout the state. Wilson, vice president of MediaTek Inc., will work to preserve the city’s historic character and landmarks.
The appointments bring to ten the number of Alexandria residents named to state positions in recent weeks. Last Friday, Governor Youngkin appointed Alexandria cybersecurity executive Micah Edmonds to the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board.
The week before, Governor Youngkin appointed five other locals to various university boards, including Daniel Gade (Christopher Newport University), Hillary Waldron (William & Mary), and Preston Cooper (George Mason University).
Thursday’s appointments were part of a larger announcement that included more than 50 positions across various state boards and commissions, spanning areas such as agriculture and forestry, veterans’ affairs, and public safety.
All appointments are subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly where required.
