Alexandria’s Office of the Arts is hosting a reception for artist Alicia Eggert, who’s been chosen to create the 2026 Site See installation at Waterfront Park.
The public is invited to join this free event on Monday, May 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 North Union Street).
This is your chance to meet Eggert in person, learn about her artistic approach, and share your thoughts about Alexandria to help shape her work.
Eggert, born in 1981, is an interdisciplinary artist known for bringing language and time to life through various art forms. Her work has been showcased in top-tier venues like the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Beijing’s CAFA Art Museum.
Her impressive resume includes a TED Fellowship, a Long Now Foundation Fellowship, and the Harpo Foundation Direct Artist Grant. Currently, she’s an Associate Professor of Studio Art at the University of North Texas.
Site See: New Views in Old Town is a yearly series that brings temporary public art installations to Waterfront Park, commissioned by Alexandria’s Public Art Program.

A Georgetown University scholar from India who was arrested in the Trump administration’s crackdown on foreign college students was released from immigration detention Wednesday after a federal judge’s ruling in Alexandria on Wednesday (May 15). The hearing drew support from members of the Alexandria City Council, with Mayor Alyia Gaskins in the courtroom for the hearing, while Councilman Abdel-Rahman Enoubi spoke to a rally happening outside of the courthouse.
Alexandria reported a significant 11% decrease in homelessness in the 2025 Point-in-Time (PIT) count, with 166 people experiencing homelessness compared to 187 in 2024.
