🚨 You need to know

Michele Chapman, former chair of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority board and mother of City Council member John Chapman, died last week at 68.
In an interview with the Alexandria Times, John said his mother took him and his sister to local museums every Saturday morning when they were kids. When John first ran for office his mother, who preferred not to walk long distances, walked the entire length of a parade with him to support him.
Over the years, Michele was a constant figure at city meetings, not only supporting her son, but as an outspoken community advocate for affordable housing. She embraced her son and cheered him on at the recent Democratic primary.
The Times reported that a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 30 at Alfred Street Baptist Church.
