Renovations are progressing at an upcoming takeout spot for Middle Eastern food in Potomac Yard.

Interior work is underway at Omar’s Pitas and Platters (3100 Richmond Hwy). The restaurant is is expected to open later this year.

Tile has been laid on the inside of the building, formerly home to Marino’s Pizza and Subs, which appears to house little more than an ordering counter and a kitchen area.

The exterior of the building has been updated to match the Omar’s branding.

According to a special use permit filed earlier this year by owner Talat Omar, the new restaurant will feature a new kitchen layout, walls, tiles and ceilings. Up-to-date kitchen equipment, including grills and exhaust hoods, will be added as part of the renovations.

When the restaurant does begin serving halal takeout, it will be open from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m.-1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The owners did not reply to a request for comment by publication time.
