Police arrest Alexandria man for felony hit and run on Duke Street that seriously injured teen

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said Alexandria resident Earl Lucas was arrested after the man allegedly hit a teen with his car on Duke Street and fled the scene.

In a release, APD said officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run around 12:26 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, at the intersection of Duke and Jordan Streets. APD said a passing motorist’s dashcam helped police identify Lucas.

“A juvenile male was walking north across Duke Street at Jordan Street when a blue sedan struck the juvenile, stopped briefly, and left the scene,” the release said. “Members of the Alexandria Police Department (APD) Crash Reconstruction Team interviewed witnesses and reviewed dashcam video provided by a passing motorist.”

The teen is in stable condition but remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Lucas was arrested around 9:30 a.m. the same morning and charged with a felony hit and run. Lucas was released on his own recognizance and his arraignment is scheduled for July 26. A felony hit-and-run is punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
