Some unscheduled bridge repair has led to a section of King Street near the eponymous Metro station being temporarily closed.
“Unexpected bridge repair work has closed King St. between Callahan Dr. and Commonwealth Ave,” police said in a tweet. “It’s unknown how long repairs will last. Follow detours and traffic direction in the area.”
Traffic is currently being diverted to Duke Street. Officials said the closure was partially the result of debris seen falling off one of the bridges over King Street.

A planned Woodrow Wilson Bridge opening tonight could disrupt travel plans for late-night drivers on I-495.
According to an alert, the bridge could be impassable from 11 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) until sometime Wednesday morning (Nov. 18). VDOT warned that travellers should expect delays and consider other routes.
The closure is planned for testing systems on the bridge, sadly — no interesting ship activity on the docket.

A crash has closed a section of Van Dorn Street near Landmark Mall, according to police.
The crash damaged a power pole and prompted the closure of Van Dorn Street between Duke Street and Holmes Run Parkway.
Police spokesman Lt. Courtney Ballantine said it was a single-car accident that resulted in minor injuries to the driver, who was taken to a local hospital. The power company is on the scene, Ballantine said, but that it would be several hours before the pole was repaired. Drivers should expect the road to be closed for the duration of those repairs.
Police said on Twitter that people should avoid the area.

The intersection of N. Jordan and Duke Street, near the Foxchase shopping center, is closed due to a serious pedestrian crash.
“A pedestrian was struck,” said Alexandria Police spokesman Lt. Courtney Ballantine. “It’s serious enough that they’ve called in the reconstruction team.”
Ballantine said the person struck was an adult male. On social media, police urged drivers to avoid the area.

Via social media, a witness reported that the man was bleeding from the head after being struck.
The incident comes just three days after another pedestrian was struck at Duke Street and Diagonal Road and a month after Alexandria artist Alfredo DaSilva was killed while crossing Duke Street at an intersection not far from today’s scene. Earlier this week a driver was charged with a deadly pedestrian crash on Duke Street in November.
A petition to reduce the speed limit on a portion of Duke Street east of Jordan Street from 35 to 25 mph has garnered just over 100 signatures.

The 600 block of King Street in Old Town — the one with the Chipotle and the Walgreens — is going to be briefly closed to car and some pedestrian traffic early tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
The block will be closed from 6-9 a.m. for construction work at 621 King Street, a Burke and Herbert Bank location, according to a press release from the City of Alexandria. A crew replacing equipment at the building will require a roadway closure for use of a large crane.
The sidewalk on the north side of the block will also be closed during the construction.

Del Ray’s annual Art on the Avenue festival is returning this weekend and drivers are warned to keep clear of the area.
On Saturday (Oct. 5), Mount Vernon Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. between Bellefonte and Hume Avenues, according to a tweet from the Alexandria Police Department.
The free street festival is expected to feature over 300 artists, with a variety of musicians and food vendors. It runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Over 50,000 visitors are expected, event organizers say. Children’s activities, like stuffing a scarecrow and painting a pumpkin, will also be part of the festivities.
