Members of Alexandria’s LGBTQ+ community are celebrating Pride Month with events throughout June.
Pride Month recognizes the contributions of LGBTQ+ communities and their push for civil rights. June was chosen for the Pride Month observance to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion, a protest of police raids on gay bar Stonewall Inn in New York City that led to a greater movement to seek LGBTQ+ rights.
There’s much to do in Alexandria on this first weekend of May.
If you haven’t gotten Mother’s Day gifts yet, there are several shopping events to pick something out for Mom. There’s also an America250 concert and Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser at Lee-Fendall House.
Alexandria’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade may have come and gone, but there are plenty more festivities coming to Alexandria celebrating the Emerald Isle.
Across the city, upcoming events include multiple bar crawls, live performances of Irish music and a feline-friendly “St. Catrick’s Day” at Mount Purrnon Cat Café + Wine Bar.
Port City Brewing Company is doing something special this weekend for its 15th anniversary.
The brewery and tasting room at 3950 Wheeler Avenue will host a two-day release party for its new Golden Rum Barrel-Aged Colossal Anniversary Ale, with “familiar notes of toffee, dried dark fruit, and subtle hop balance paired perfectively with the sweet vanilla, coconut, honey, and molasses flavors of the rum.”
