There’s much to do in Alexandria on this first weekend of May.
If you haven’t gotten Mother’s Day gifts yet, there are several shopping events to pick something out for Mom. There’s also an America250 concert and Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser at Lee-Fendall House.

Old Town Boutique Community’s Spring Fling: an Old Town Block Party
When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 2
The Old Town Boutique Community, an organization of 30 small businesses in Old Town, will host the Spring Fling with activities for all ages, including tarot card readings, build-your-own flower bouquets and other hands-on crafts, outdoor yoga sessions and snow cones. More than 20 participating storefronts will have pop-ups, trunk shows and other special activations during business hours. Shops range from home décor, fashion and jewelry to beauty, children’s apparel and more.
Old Town Alexandria
Made in ALX Spring Maker’s Market at Port City Brewing
When: 12-5 p.m. Saturday, May 2
This returning market will feature more than 25 artists, creators and makers selling their handmade products. Several local artists and vendors will offer arts and craft projects for attendees to do, such as making custom-scented hand scrubs, decorating chocolate truffles, creating jewelry, making custom magnets and key rings, and more. While shopping, attendees can enjoy beers from Port City Brewing Co. and food from La Tingeria.

“Let Freedom Ring,” a Family-Friendly America 250 Concert
When: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2
This concert centered around patriotic and inspirational music will honor military servicemembers for America’s 250th anniversary. Military and veteran performers will include veteran vocal ensemble CAMMO Voices, American Military Spouses Choir, West Point Alumni Glee Club, and country singer-songwriter and veteran Donnie Isaacs. The show takes place at Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center. Tickets are $20, with discounts for students, seniors and military.

Wine & Art Night at Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden
When: 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2
This Kentucky Derby-inspired event features an evening of fine wine, local art and food in the historic Lee-Fendall Garden. Guests are encouraged to wear Derby-style fashion like stylish hats and spring attire. This is the museum’s annual spring fundraiser to help preserve the property and the stories of people who lived and worked there. Mayor Alyia Gaskins will attend to offer remarks.

With Love Studios Bridal Event
When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, May 3
This ticketed bridal event will let attendees browse vintage wedding gowns, courthouse and occasion looks, getting-ready attire, and accessories. Guest curators will also bring in their own pieces to sell. The event will operate with timed tickets to limit capacity.
