The Old Town Pub Crawl, a sold-out show with The Police drummer Stewart Copeland, historical tours and other events will keep Alexandrians busy throughout the weekend.
After a Code Purple Air Quality Alert on Friday, conditions should somewhat improve for outdoor events this weekend. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is predicting a moderate air quality index on Saturday.
However, residents should watch for cancellation updates for outdoor events Friday. The city has cancelled Friday’s Alexandria Pipes and Drums Summer Concert at Waterfront Park, but there will be another show Aug. 21.
Here’s what is coming up this weekend in Alexandria:
Conversational Tour: America250 – Who We Remember
When: 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, July 17
Gadsby’s Tavern Museum will host this conversational tour to reflect on who is remembered in history and why. Participants will be encouraged to make connections and reflect on the past and present. There will be an option to purchase water, soda, or locally crafted beer or hard cider at the event.

13th Annual Old Town Pub Crawl
When: 1:30-6 p.m.
Port City Brewing Company will host the Old Town Pub Crawl with seven participating stops. Guests can visit one of the participating restaurants and pick up a Port City pub crawl guide and pub crawl pass. Once you get the pass stamped at each restaurant, take it to the information station at the Tall Ship Providence in Waterfront Park starting at 5 p.m. to get a limited edition pub crawl glass.

Those Who Signed The Fairfax Resolves Walking Tour
When: 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18
Learn about the 25 men from Fairfax County (including Alexandria) who, on July 18, 1774, signed the Fairfax Resolves, which rejected the British Parliament’s claim of authority over the American colonies. Many of these men had ties to Alexandria, and some of the buildings related to them are still standing.

Specialty Tour: Hamilton’s BFF & Frenemies
When: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, July 18
Inspired by the musical Hamilton, this event will evaluate how Washington, Lafayette, Jefferson, Madison and Burr intersected at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. The discussion will look at issues they faced and how their choices affected local residents.

An Evening of Conversation with Stewart Copeland at the Birchmere
When: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19
Stewart Copeland, most famous as the drummer for The Police, is in the midst of an American spoken word tour. This event at The Birchmere is sold out, but the venue has numerous other events in its lineup.

BPAC Presents: Alexandria Presidential History Bike Tour
When: 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 19
This bike tour will feature presidential trivia associated with sites in Alexandria. Participants of all ages and abilities can join for part or all of the two-hour, 14-mile route and should bring a bike, helmet and water.
