Alexandria Police have identified a 39-year-old suspect who was arrested in North Carolina after allegedly crashing his car into the Verizon store near Potomac Yard on March 22.

Chip Rodney Daniels, of Tyler, Texas, was arrested on unrelated charges the following day in North Carolina.

Updated at 3:20 p.m. — An adult woman suffered minor injuries after an altercation with another woman on the platform of the King Street-Old Town Metro station in Old Town on Friday.

Alexandria Police and the Metro Transit Police Department responded to the incident at around noon.

No charges have been made against a driver who smashed a window at a CVS in De Ray late Thursday afternoon.

Police said the driver had wooden boards in the back of his truck, which struck the window of the store at 415 E. Monroe Avenue as he backed up from his parking space. No one was injured and the driver stayed at the scene.

Alexandria Police are investigating a spike in the number of airbags being stolen from vehicles in the middle of the night.

The most recent incidents were reported on Feb. 28, when up to nine vehicles were broken into and airbags were stolen from the Southern Towers apartment complex in the 4900 block of Seminary Road in the West End. There were also up to 15 airbags stolen at the end of last October in the 5000 block of Eisenhower Avenue.

If Alexandria Police are going to be outfitted with body worn cameras, then City Council is going to have to find $13 million in the upcoming budget.

The program would cost $12.9 million over six years and would work incrementally, with 110 officers getting the cameras in the first year, 110 officers in the second year and a total of 325 officers wearing them by the third year.

A fight between teenagers in a West End apartment building last month could have turned deadly after a gun was pointed at a 13-year-old girl.

The girl was not seriously injured, but was “visibly shaken” when police responded to the 1400 block of N. Beauregard Street at around 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. Police said that her hair was messy as if she’d been in a fight and that makeup was running down her face as if she’d been crying.

Prompted by a question from City Council member Canek Aguirre, the city is reviewing alternative uses of funding that could be freed up if the city moves forward with plans to do away with the school resource officer position.

School resources officers (SROs) are police officers stationed inside T.C. Williams High School, Francis Hammond Middle School and George Washington Middle School and specialize in handling kids with emotional and education issues, search and seizure on school grounds, and school shooting situations.

Updated at 3:30 p.m. — Four people have been arrested and charged with robbing a juvenile of a pair of shoes at gunpoint in the West End on Tuesday (March 23).

Alexandria Police said the incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of Knole Court, which is near Holmes Run.

Updated at 1:15 p.m. — Alexandria Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly grabbing the buttocks of a number of women, including a juvenile and a teacher at Mount Vernon Community School, on Wednesday.

Justin Leon Murray was charged with assault and battery and simple assault. He is not believed to be involved with a number of indecent exposures in the area.
