Two Alexandria men were arrested last month for drug possession and allegedly attempting to flee from police in the Landmark area.
The suspects were arrested after getting pulled over in the 6100 block of Edsall Road on Saturday, Jan. 8.

(Update at 2:45 p.m.) It’s no secret that Alexandria’s public safety agencies want a raise in the upcoming city budget, but if they are to get a compensation increase it will be outside of the boundaries of collective bargaining.
After more than a year of organizing, the elections for collective bargaining representation for the city’s first responders will be held between Feb. 5 and Feb. 22. But with a staffing crisis and compensation issues within the Fire Department, Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, it will not be until 2024 until negotiations will be fruitful.
Alexandria Police are still searching for a man who robbed the CVS at gunpoint just before midnight on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The store is open 24 hours, and a man brandished a handgun during the robbery. No one was injured and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from a register.
A Fairfax County woman experiencing a mental health crisis was apprehended after allegedly slamming a 19-month-old boy to the ground in the emergency room at Inova Alexandria Hospital last month.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20. Police said that the woman was acting erratically by knocking items off of counters, according to a search warrant. The woman then allegedly walked into a room, picked up the child by his legs and flung him on the floor.
A 20 year-old Alexandria man was shot to death in his car in Lincolnia, and a 20-year-old Fairfax County man and a 17-year-old alleged accomplice have been arrested for his murder.
The body of Ahmed Hasheem Ebrahim has still not surfaced since it was put in a dumpster on January 16, according to Fairfax County Police. He was last seen leaving his home for a friend’s house the previous evening, Saturday, January 15. Ebrahim’s car was found on January 18 in Alexandria and towed to an impound lot.
A 40-year-old Alexandria man suspected of participating in a drive-by shooting in the West End earlier this month was released on bond shortly after being booked in the Alexandria jail.
On January 8, police were called to the area of South Pickett Street and Edsall Road after a witness reported a man driving a black Nissan point a handgun outside of the window and fire two rounds at an unknown person, according to a search warrant affidavit.
It’s been more than a month after the school resource officers were placed on leave at Alexandria City High School, and police have yet to replace those officers.
The officers were placed on leave shortly before the winter break after a former student alleged having “sexually inappropriate conversations” while she attended ACHS, according to the Washington Post.
Alexandria man cited by police after trying to bring gun onto plane at National Airport this weekend
An Alexandria man received a citation after he was caught at National Airport bringing a gun through security.
According to a press release from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a TSA officer caught the gun among carry-on items at a security checkpoint.
A man is undergoing mental health treatment after being apprehended for allegedly assaulting two people inside a CVS with a hammer in the West End.
The incident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at The Shops at Mark Center (1458 N. Beauregard Street).
A 17-year-old Falls Church male was arrested charged with two counts of felony hit and run after an incident that injured two Alexandria firefighters on the morning of Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) in the Landmark area.
The incident occurred at around 4 a.m. in the 300 block of S. Reynolds Street. The suspect, who was driving a dark-colored sports utility vehicle, was arrested by Fairfax County Police.
A 40-year-old Alexandria man has been charged with the Dec. 7 murder of a woman in the West End.
David Cunningham was charged with the second degree murder of 23-year-old Melia Jones in her apartment in the unit block of South Van Dorn Street. Police have not released how she was killed, and said that Cunningham is being held without bond in the Alexandria jail.
