After more than a decade at the helm, Tammy Mann is stepping down as president and CEO of Campagna Center.

Mann made the announcement in a press release this morning, and said that she will effectively leave the nonprofit on April 30, 2025.

If you’re an Alexandrian looking for a way to support your community, a Community Volunteer Fair tomorrow (Saturday) will have over 40 local nonprofits helping you find a proper fit.

Volunteer Alexandria and JustServe are sponsoring a Community Volunteer Friday on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 3-5 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2810 King Street).

Campagna Center, an Alexandria non-profit that helps local children and families, will be hosting a celebration showcasing Alexandria’s diverse cultures with the help of some grant funding from another local nonprofit.

Campagna Center is hosting Welcoming Week 2024 on Sunday, Sept. 15, at its headquarters at 418 S. Washington Street. The event will be funded, in part, via a $2,000 grant from fellow nonprofit ACT for Alexandria.

ALIVE!, an Alexandria nonprofit dedicated to providing housing, is bringing back its annual walkathon this fall to raise funding for neighbors in need.

The walkathon is scheduled to return on Sunday, Oct. 20. The walkathon is an optional 5k or five-mile walk through Alexandria starting at First Christian Church (2723 King Street). The walk is followed by snacks, live music and a raffle.

An Alexandria middle school got a boost from the United Way of the National Capital Area with the donation of backpacks and school supplies.

Francis C. Hammond Middle School (4646 Seminary Road) joined six other Title I schools in receiving the backpacks, which were filled with grade-appropriate school supplies.

Alexandria childcare nonprofit The Campagna Center coming together with a few partners to host a back-to-school health fair to help families in need.

The fair aims to help preschool-age children from families at 100-200% of the federal poverty level. The health fair will run from Wednesday, Aug. 14 through Friday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Campagna Center headquarters (418 S. Washington Street).

July was a good month for giving in Alexandria, as more than 36,500 pounds of food was collected in Volunteer Alexandria‘s second annual food drive for ALIVE!.

There were dozens of collection points for food in last month’s community-wide effort to help the food bank. Last year’s effort raise more than 25,000 pounds.

Alexandria nonprofit ALIVE! has a new trio of affordable housing units thanks to some help from HomeAid National Capital Region, a nonprofit building homes for those in need.

The project took a three-story, single-family home and created three separate housing units along with office space.

Alexandria families in an emergency or a crisis now have a one-stop shop for children’s clothing, basic necessities and more.

Local nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is opening ALX Closet, a new resource center dedicated to helping Alexandria’s children and families get access to necessities in times of need. ALX Closet is located in the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive — aka West End Town Hall.

(Updated at 1:30 p.m.) It could’ve been curtains for all those free prom dresses this year at Alexandria City High School.

With the high school’s annual shindig scheduled for May 18, it was a shock for administrators to learn Monday that UNCUT Youth, the organization responsible for providing free prom dresses to dozens of students, had backed out.

Alexandria’s biggest giving day has done it again. On Wednesday, ACT for Alexandria raised $2.9 million for 188 nonprofits.

The final tally will keep changing as donations will continue on the Spring2ACTion website until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
