Got a Christmas tree yet?

The Alexandria Police Department has already sold more than 300 trees in its annual sale at 110 Callahan Drive — just outside Alexandria Union Station.

APD is selling 700 trees in all, with all proceeds funding the nonprofit Alexandria Police Youth Camp. Prices range from $70 to $175 for the trees, which are transported from Muncy, Pennsylvania.

APD officer Alex Trapero has been volunteering for the nonprofit for nearly 15 years.

“We’ve sold about 330 trees so far,” Trapero said. “We’re estimated to close around December 15, or before if we sell out, which is what I’m hoping for.”

For six weeks every summer for nearly 80 years, up to 150 kids — all attending for free — are bused to the 100-acre APYC camp in Kilmarnock, Virginia.

The effort costs about $850 per camper, and the total effort runs APD about $55,000 every year, says Trapero, who is also vice president of the board for the camp.

The lot is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
