Mas Seafood to Open Retail Space in Old Town — “From the previous North Henry Street location, they supplied restaurants in Alexandria and Arlington, including Daniel O’Connell’s Pub, Fontaine Caffe & Creperie, Alexandria Pasty Shop and Belle Haven Pizzeria. Del Ray Staple Al’s Steak House for Sale After Owner’s Death

A “profitable sandwich shop” in Alexandria that’s been operating since 1955 — ie Al’s Steak House (1504 Mt. Vernon Avenue) in Del Ray — is now being offered for sale.

The restaurant was listed at BizBuySell.com and the description fits the bill for Al’s Steak House. The iconic cheesesteak in the graphics is the same as well.

Homegrown Restaurant Group Donates 600+ Lunches to Alexandria Election Workers

Homegrown Restaurant Group is donating lunch to all election officials in Alexandria today.

With 30 polling stations in the city, that’s about 600 lunches.

Soft Opening for New Chicken Joint in North Old Town Today

Herndon-based Wooboi Hot Chicken is hosting a small “soft opening” today at a new location opening in North Old Town (531 Montgomery Street).

The soft opening is scheduled to run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. though those who want to try the chicken should lean towards the earlier side, as Wooboi Hot Chicken said there is a limited supply today.

Emmy Squared Pizza Wants to Open in Old Town Next Year at the Old Pizzeria Paradiso

Pizzeria Paradiso officially closed its doors at 124 King Street on October 4, and three days later Emmy Squared Pizza submitted a special use permit (SUP) application to start business at the prime spot in Old Town.

Drug Take Back Day is October 24 — “Safely dispose of your unused and expired medicines during Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop off locations will be available at APD Headquarters, Fire Station 210, and the Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray.” [Twitter]

Council Approves Real Estate Tax Deferral — “Yesterday Council approved a resolution providing for a ‘hardship deferral’ option for payment of Alexandria’s second half real estate tax payment. Upon request, this allows an individual taxpayer to defer payment of the November 16th payment until March 1.” [Twitter]

VIDEO: Old Town/Del Ray Oyster Eating Contest Ties at 103-103

As the first-ever Old Town Oyster Week draws to a close in Alexandria, an oyster eating contest with Del Ray and Old Town business owners resulted in a tie.

Bill Blackburn, of Pork Barrel BBQ in Del Ray and Trae Lamond of Chadwicks in Old Town tied by both eating 103 sea stone oysters in the Pearl of Alexandria Oyster Eating Contest held at Whiskey & Oyster on Thursday, October 15. The competition ended when the restaurant ran out of oysters.
