A Fairfax County man is out on bond after allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting two women at the Braddock Road and Potomac Yard Metro stations last month.

Jeffrey Gary, 35, a Georgetown Law graduate, was employed as an assistant division chief by the Federal Communications Commission up until his June 1 arrest. He was released Friday (June 13) on four bonds totaling $14,000, according to court records.

An Alexandria police officer and another driver have been transported to the hospital after a crash this morning in Old Town.

The crash between an Alexandria Police Department cruiser and a van was reported at around 10 a.m. near the intersection of S. Patrick Street (Route 1) and Franklin Street. The officer suffered a head injury, according to Alexandria Fire Department dispatches.

Here’s a quick recap of our top stories this week. Over the last weekend, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security removed its list of sanctuary jurisdictions, which included Alexandria, from its website. The list contained numerous errors, including localities being mentioned multiple times, as well as towns being incorrectly designated as cities. It drew stern condemnation from Alexandria’s elected leaders.

“DHS did not provide any information regarding the criteria used to compile the list, any sources or research used for the designation, or a response to local governments seeking clarification,” Mayor Gaskins told ALXnow. “As a result, they published a list that was wrong and mischaracterized cities like ours. We follow the law and uphold the constitutional and civil rights of our residents.”

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) today (June 3) announced that it has concluded a criminal investigation with the arrest of the third and final suspect in a violent shooting incident that occurred in the 800 block of W. Glebe Road on July 30, 2024.

According to APD, Detectives from the Alexandria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have identified and charged 22-year-old Justin McKnight of Alexandria, 22-year-old Demetrius Charlton of Fairfax, and 20-year-old Jhamal Muskelly of Alexandria in connection with the shooting, during which multiple rounds struck an occupied home. All three firearms used in this case have been recovered. No injuries were reported.

A 28-year-old Alexandria resident who works for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is in custody for allegedly attempting to transmit national defense information to an officer or agent of a foreign government.

Nathan Vilas Laatsch, an IT specialist in the DIA’s Insider Threat Division, was arrested Thursday in northern Virginia. He’s set to appear in court in the Eastern District of Virginia on Friday.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a regional larceny rampage, with three suspects accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of products and fleeing in a stolen red Acura SUV with stolen license plates.

The first incident was reported on Monday, April 15, when $2,457 in merchandise was stolen from Home Depot at 400 S. Pickett Street. The suspects, three Black males, were videoed walking out of the store and into a red Acura MDX with stolen Maryland license plates, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

A 59-year-old former FedEx driver was charged with grand larceny after more than $210,000 worth of cell phones intended for Verizon were stolen from the company’s shipping center at 4720 Eisenhower Avenue.

The suspect, a Maryland man, was suspended from his position at FedEx on January 15, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit. The phones were in several packages intended for the Verizon Wireless store in Springfield (6432 Springfield Plaza).
