One westbound lane has reopened near 5005 Duke Street after Alexandria staff and police responded overnight to a water main break in the area.
Virginia American Water is currently responding to the main break, which the Alexandria Police Department reported on Facebook shortly after 11 p.m. yesterday (Monday). The break prompted APD to close westbound lanes at the scene, and as of 12:45 a.m. today (Tuesday), one lane had been reopened.

Traffic is backed up on westbound Interstate 495 near Eisenhower Avenue as authorities respond to the scene of a tractor-trailer crash near the Alexandria-Fairfax County border.
The crash occurred when the driver of a tractor-trailer in the right lane “lost control, jack-knifed, and struck an SUV” on westbound I-495 around 4:08 p.m., according to Virginia State Police.
A 24-hour Scandanavian-inspired bodybuilding gym is being proposed to replace the West Marine boating supply store at 601 and 619 S. Patrick Street in Old Town.
Desiree Marvin, the owner of Valhalla Property Holding, LLC, is asking the city for permission to renovate the existing building and convert it into an “upscale bodybuilding gym” with personal trainers, an open-concept layout, heavy lifting equipment and cardio machines, according to an application.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be another snow day for Alexandria City Public Schools students, ACPS announced this afternoon.
All schools and offices will close “due to below freezing temperatures this evening and road conditions across the region,” Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt wrote in an announcement. This also means all activities on school grounds are canceled.
A new record for home sales has been set in the City of Alexandria as the historic property known as “Clarens Estate” is officially off the market.
The property at 318 N. Quaker Lane sold for $7.5 million, the highest price a home in the city has sold for, according to Washington Fine Properties. Jaci Appel and Hadley Jones of WFP were the seller’s agents, and Al and Harriet Pricenor of Weichert Realtors represented the buyer.
