A 23-year-old man suspected of smashing the front window of a jewelry store on King Street in Old Town this morning (June 4) was arrested a half hour after the incident in the basement of nearby Christ Church.
The Alexandria Police Department was notified that a suspect in a mask and wearing all black smashed a front window to the jewelry store in the 600 block of King Street and fled the scene on foot, according to radio dispatches.
Witnesses reported to police that the suspect fled in the direction of Christ Church at 118 N. Washington Street. Police made a perimeter around the church, which is around the corner from the jewelry store, and the suspect was apprehended in the basement. He was transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital for a laceration.
APD confirmed officers had a suspect in custody in the grand larceny investigation involving the 600 block of King Street and 100 block of N. Washington Street. The incident is under investigation.
