An Alexandria resident, 18-year-old Marlyn Medrano-Ortiz, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for a double homicide in Sterling in August.
According to a release from Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman, Medrano-Ortiz is charged with the murder of Mijal Conejero-Romera, a 22-year-old woman from Sterling, and Diego Alexander Woollett, a 22-year-old Arlington resident, on August 28.

A federal judge in Alexandria today ordered Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin to restore the voting rights of more than 1,600 Virginians taken off the rolls just weeks before the Nov. 5 general election.
U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles said that Youngkin’s order on Aug. 7 systematically discriminated against Virginia residents within the 90-day “quiet period” before election day as outlined in the National Voter Registration Act.

During a heated City Council debate about plans to overhaul the Van Dorn Street/Eisenhower Interchange, part of the discussion was angst over nearby developer The Greenhill Companies’ opposition to the project.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) released body-worn camera footage (warning: the video contains strong language and graphic images) of an officer involved shooting where police shot and killed Paul Behan Jr. in the stairwell outside his apartment on Aug. 12.
The footage follows police responding to Behan’s apartment for a welfare check after a coworker warned that he was armed and experiencing a mental health crisis following trouble at work. Behan was a lead technician at a hospital in D.C.
