Businesses Raise Concerns about City Hall Renovation’s Parking Impact — “Alexandria City Hall is getting a major makeover, but nearby businesses said the yearslong construction project is already affecting foot traffic, especially among customers who can no longer find convenient parking. Businesses in the 100 block of North Fairfax Street, including the Today’s Cargo jewelry store, said they have noticed changes in shopping habits since the City Hall renovation project began this year.” [WTOP]

City Council Special Meeting Tomorrow — “City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, July 29 to approve more investigation into the August 2025 death of a man in Alexandria Police Department custody. Earlier this month, the city’s Independent Community Policing Review Board (ICPRB) voted unanimously to send back an “incomplete” report on the death of Allan Tucker II.” [ALXnow]

Dream Chaser’s Coffee is back.

Three months after being forced to close their new coffee shop in Old Town North, Leo and Brittani Maggio have found a new home for the business. On Saturday (July 25), the shop reopened in a large commercial flex space at The Garden Alexandria at 5380 Eisenhower Avenue (Suite C), joining Building Momentum, Saltenna and Dominion Electric Supply, and guaranteeing a steady stream of customers who’ve relied for years on brewing single-cup coffee pods.

Alexandria parking battle moves to Russell Road near Naomi L. Brooks Elementary

A contentious proposal to remove on-street parking between the 400 and 800 blocks of Russell Road is heading to Alexandria’s Traffic and Parking Board tonight (Monday).

The recommendations would remove on-street parking in the area around Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School (600 Russell Road) and create “painted curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalk markings, and improved ADA curb ramps at six intersections on Russell Road, and a new pedestrian crossing at West Chapman Street.”

Alexandria officials and residents push back against planned data center near city limits

Data center plans just outside Alexandria city limits has raised concerns among residents and officials.

Starwood Capital Group filed the permit application and building plans to Fairfax County for the 34-acre Plaza 500 site at 6299 Edsall Road in Lincolnia. The application is for Plaza 500 South, the first of two data center buildings it is seeking.

ACPS makes registration push ahead of new school year to avoid first-day rush

Alexandria City Public Schools is making a push to get new students registered in time for the new school year.

The city’s public school system has already seen 1,637 early student registrations between April 15 and July 1, a 15.5% increase of early new student registrations compared to April 23 and July 1 last year. Over 900 families have been fully registered or are completing enrollment.
