A derailment involving a track vehicle Sunday (Sept. 20) has prompted Metro to scale back Yellow Line service.
According to Metro, a track vehicle, not a train, derailed amid weekend bridge and track rehabilitation on the Yellow Line. There were no reported injuries.
On Monday, Yellow Line trains are running only between Huntington and Arlington Cemetery through the afternoon. Blue Line trains are running normally and will continue to stations beyond Arlington Cemetery. Metro is also offering shuttles between the Pentagon (Bus Bay L7) and L’Enfant Plaza (7th Street and Maryland Avenue SW) stations to support the morning commute.
Metro advised riders to plan for additional travel time and check for its latest rider alerts. The transit agency originally anticipated completing repairs after morning rush hour but now expects completion after Metro closes for the night.
“Our team is working to restore full service before tomorrow morning’s commute,” Metro said on X.
The Yellow Line will also be suspended for bridge and track work during the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27.
No injuries were reported as a result of the track vehicle derailment. Crews have been on scene throughout the night working to address the derailment and will continue wrapping up bridge and track rehabilitation on Monday through system opening.
